FT-IR

Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FT‑IR)

As part of our molecular spectroscopy capabilities, CA Analytical Testing Services offers Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FT‑IR) for the characterization and identification of materials. FT‑IR is a powerful analytical technique which uses infrared absorbance spectra to determine the functional groups present in a sample, making it invaluable for both product characterization and unknown material identification.

Our FT‑IR instrument can analyze a wide variety of sample types, including solids, gels, liquids, and emulsions. The most common approach, diamond attenuated total reflection (ATR), is suitable for virtually all sample types. We also offer alternative preparation methods such as KBr pellets, Mull cells, and liquid cells when needed. Analyses can be performed for either qualitative or quantitative purposes, and our extensive electronic spectroscopy and spectrophotometry reference libraries support accurate identification and chemical composition confirmation.

Applications
Infrared absorption depends on dipole moment changes during molecular vibrations and/or rotations, allowing FT‑IR to detect specific chemical functional groups and provide detailed molecular characterization. This makes it especially useful in research and synthesis, where confirming the presence of desired functional groups is critical.

With FT‑IR technology, CA Analytical Testing Services delivers precise, reliable molecular identification for a wide range of materials, from raw ingredients to finished products.
